Emerging Documentary Filmmaker Award - Bing Lui

The prestigious event which celebrates the very best in non-fiction, took place on Saturday at the Paramount Theater in Los Angeles.

Minding the Gap bested climbing doc Free Solo and US smash hit Won't You Be My Neighbor? among others to win the coveted Best Documentary award. Director Bing Lui also picked up Best Editing togerher with Joshua Altman. Bing also took home the IDA Award’s Emerging Documentary Filmmaker Award. Minding The Gap follows three young men who bond together to escape volatile families in their Rust Belt hometown. As they face adult responsibilities, unexpected revelations threaten their decade-long friendship.

The intimate portrait of the Sri Lankan artist and musician who continues to shatter conventions, MATANGI / MAYA / M.I.A., tied with the Mr. SOUL!, the tale of TV's first all-black entertainment and variety show, for Best Music Documentary.
