Each year DOC NYC releases a Short List which has a history of being a huge predictor of other awards. In 2016 the DOC NYC shortlist had nine titles that were on the Oscar Documentary Short List and included all five of the final nominees. Dogwoof is ecstatic that this year's shortlist includes City of Ghosts and Dina. Both films premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival and Dina took home the Grand Jury Prize. For the full shortlist and more about the list visit docnyc.net.
Both films were also recently included on The Hollywood Reporter's predictions for the Best Documentary Feature Oscars shortlist with City of Ghosts selected as one of their frontrunners.
A film by Matthew Heineman
Oscar®-nominated filmmaker Matthew Heineman follows up Cartel Land with another real-life international thriller. With deeply personal access, City of Ghosts is the story of a brave group of Syrian citizen journalists risking their lives to stand up against the Islamic State in Raqqa.
A film by Daniel Sickles and Antonio Santini
Taking the Grand Jury Documentary Prize at Sundance 2017, Dina is a charming, quirky and unconventional love-story between two eccentric souls that will resonate with all audiences.
