New Film from Tribeca Film Festival: The Departure

Dogwoof is happy to announce its newest film The Departure, which premieres at the Tribeca Film Festival! This new film from Emmy-winning filmmaker Lana Wilson tells the story of a former punk rocker that became a Buddhist priest to help suicidal people find a purpose in their lives. The 2017 Tribeca Festival will run from the 19th till the 30th of April, and Dogwoof Global will be attending. Also screening at the festival is Matthew Heineman's newest film City of Ghosts, which premiered earlier this year at Sundance Film Festival.

The Departure shows Buddhist priest Ittetsu Nemoto's unique approaches to single-handedly fight the high suicidal rate in Japan. Over the past ten years his extraordinary methods have proven to be successful. The documentary follows Nemoto at his counselling sessions as well as his personal life and adresses the need of public conversation about suicide. However, his desire of preventing suicide takes its toll. Struggling with his own health and personal life he finds himself fighting the same battle as his patients.
