DOC NYC is an annual documentary festival based in New York City, the 2016 festival runs from November 10 - 17. We have nine films showing at festival including opening night film, Citizen Jane: Battle for the City. This inspiring film chronicles legendary writer and urban activist Jane Jacobs as she battles to save historic NYC neighbourhoods from the draconian redevelopment plans of ruthless power broker Robert Moses. Based on Jane Jacob's book: The Death and Life of Great American Cities.
The festival also marks the US premieres of two films. Machine of Human Dreams and Versus: The Life and Films of Ken Loach. Machine of Human Dreams follows Ben Goertzel, a renowend computers expert, who has dedicated his life to developing a software the models the human mind. We follow him over two years in his quest to build a robot with human-like intelligence. Versus is a funny, provocative and revealing account of the life and career of one of Britain’s foremost filmmakers, Ken Loach, as he turns eighty and looks back at over fifty years of filmmaking.
Earlier this month, DOC NYC announced their influential shortlist which included four Dogwoof films: Jim: The James Foley Story, Mapplethorpe: Look at the Pictures, Weiner and Life, Animated. These four films will also screen at the festival. Find all nine of our titles screening at the festival below:
